Smallmouth Fishing

As some of you may already know I have a secret love for Brown Bass. In the early spring when the water first starts to warm I begin to forget about largemouth and focus my attention solely on smallmouth. There is something about the way they fight. It could be the huge jumps, or the powerful runs at the last second, but whatever it is, I’m hooked!

I hope you enjoy this video from earlier this year. I had the pleasure of spending a day on the water with my dad. It turned out to be a day to remember as he ended a fun-filled day with a smallmouth that tipped the scales past the 5 pound barrier

Are you a smallmouth junkie? I’d love to hear about it! Some of you are blessed to live in parts of the country where brown bass are the primary game fish and I’m sure you have stories to tell.

Fishing a Football Jig

Initially this was going to be the final video in the series on jigs. However, I’ve received so much feedback with specific questions that this series will have to continue. I plan to start breaking down the details of when/where/why to fish a jig. In the meantime, here is an introduction to fishing a football head jig. Enjoy!

Please continue to share your comments, ideas, and theories via the “post suggestions” tab at the top of the page. Your specific questions will be answered in the coming videos on jig fishing if you submit them in the next few days.

Proper Rod Action for Jigs

There is a trend among rod manufacturers to build faster and faster blanks. It seems like a few years ago you couldn’t get a true “fast” action rod while today its hard to find anything less.
For a lot of applications in the bass world that was a great transition. Unfortunately, it has wreaked havoc on unsuspecting fisherman trying to fish a jig.
I hope this video sheds a little light on what I believe to be as close as you can get to the “perfect” rod for fishing 1/2 oz and heavier jigs.

I hope my insights into rod actions make sense to you. Is this something you’ve noticed? Or do you completely disagree? Either way, leave a comment, I’d love to hear what you think.
