Winter Jerkbait Fishing Tips

Jerkbaits are one of the few reaction baits that work consistently, even at the lowest water temps. Matt explains the differences between jerkbait models and why they're able to draw strikes. He also breaks down the gear needed and cadences to use to catch the most fish this Winter.

Keep an eye out for Friday's video as well! On Friday we'll explore Bass behavior underwater and watch them react to a jerkbait. Observing their behavior is VERY eye opening but first you have to understand the baits, the cadences, and the proper gear. Below is a breakdown of the baits and equipment we use for jerkbaits this time of year.

Top 5 Baits for Winter Spots and Smallies

Winter Bass Fishing can be difficult if you're not used to locating deep fish but if you put in your time it is one of the best times of the year to catch big bass! Tim shows the Top 5 Baits that will help you quickly locate and catch cold water bass.

These baits work extremely well for spotted bass and smallmouth bass but also work well for largemouth. Winter isn't the time to be experimenting with new baits so fish these with confidence and know that you're throwing baits the bass will readily eat, even in the coldest of weather.

The beauty of spotted bass in particular is it doesn't matter if you're trying to catch a bunch of 2 lbers or you're trying to catch the next world record spotted bass, they all eat the same baits. You can catch the biggest spotted bass on earth with a senko, a dropshot, or a keitech without limiting yourself from catching numbers of fish along the way.

Baits Shown in this video...

-Dirty Jigs Finesse Football
-Yamamoto Double Tail Grub

-Twin Tail 5" Hula Grub
-Yamamoto Football Head

-4.8" Keitech
-Matt Allen Swimbait Head

-2.8 Keitech
-Revenge Darthead

-Blade Runner Spoon (1 3/4 oz)

Winter Bass Fishing: Focus on the Extremes

Winter may be tough fishing but its prime time to catch giant bass! Don't let the cold temperatures and tough fishing fool you, this is one of your best shots at the fish of a lifetime and you should absolutely be on the water.

This isn't the time to be exploring new baits or trying to build confidence. During the cold water months you should be focused on a handful of confidence baits so you know that you're doing the right things, even when you aren't getting bit. If you stick to your game plan the time will come that you cross paths with a truly giant bass!

Baits that we recommend during the cold Winter months...
