Fishing Metal Baits For Cold Water Bass (Spoons, Blade Baits, Tail Spins)

"Heavy Metal Bass Fishing" is even more fun than it sounds! Winter is prime time to fish a variety of metal baits. Blade Baits and tail spins were born out of necessity in the heart of Winter. Jigging spoons and flutter spoons have amazing fish catching abilities any time baitfish are around. If you're not putting these metal baits to work for you, you're leaving fish behind in the cold water months!

A lot of anglers misunderstand Metal baits. They look at these hunks of metal hanging on the pegs at their local tackle shop and can't believe bass would eat them. It's not until you see the action in the water that they'll begin to make sense. After the first few bites, you're shocked by the realization that fish can't resist these lures! Cold water bass fishing with metal baits can be incredible! Now, not all baits are created equal and we definitely have a few favorites.

Fishing Metal Baits For Cold Water Bass! (All The Tricks)

There's more than one way to fish these lures, you might be surprised! If you're not using these lures right now, you're blowing it! Blade baits, Tail Spins, and Spoons are all amazing cold water presentations. Long after bass stop eating other presentations (or move too deep for them to be effective) Metal baits keep getting bit.

The blade bait is by far the most popular lure in this category. Northern anglers in particular are very familiar with its effectiveness. We're all excited about Spring but the cold water isn't gone yet! If your bass are deep and lethargic, its prime time to hit them with heavy metal. Will a bass really eat a hunk of metal? You better believe it! Spoons, Blades, Tail Spins, and Ice Jigs, are made for this time of year! Here are the tricks we use to get them bit...

The blade bait is one of the deadliest cold water baits ever made. Add in a jigging spoon and a tail spin and you've got an arsenal that can catch cold water bass anywhere. The key to these heavy metal baits is knowing how to adapt them to your conditions. Some days you're snapping them aggressively off the bottom, other days its nothing but a flip of the rod tip to keep the bait quivering on the bottom. Subtle changes will make a huge difference in the days and weeks ahead.
