Tail Spins Tricks for Fall and Winter Bass

One of the most overlooked baits in bass fishing, the tail spin (tail spinner) produces amazing fish catches during the Fall and Winter season. While simple in appearance, the bait is incredibly versatile when used with different retrieves. Bass can't resist a well placed tail spinner fished around baitfish! In Today's video Matt explains how to fish the lures, which retrieves work best for different situations, and even shows his confidence baits.

Most anglers consider tail spins to be a deep water lure for schooling bass. While they are incredibly effective in deep water, a tail spin is also at home in the shallows. These baits can be fished in as shallow as a few feet of water around visible cover with a fast, steady retrieve. If the bass are down deep, switching to a slow roll or a pumping retrieve will yield the best results.

Tail spins come in many shapes and sizes. Single treble hook, double hook, even line through offerings are available. Once you learn how to adapt the baits to your fishing conditions the tail spin will become a staple in your cold water bass fishing arsenal. Below is a breakdown of Matt's confidence baits as well as the equipment he uses to consistently land his tail spin fish.

The Best Dropshot Trick For Fall Bass!

Are you ready to try something different to catch more bass this Fall? Are you tired of the same old dropshot worm? Its time to discover a new way to fish a finesse swimbait! Dropshotting small swimbaits is a deadly trick for Fall bass that are feeding on baitfish. If you aren't doing it this Fall, you're missing fish that are ready to be caught.

Tim turns to a non-traditional dropshot rig for Fall bass. Not only does he use a swimbait instead of a worm, he also prefers to tie his tungsten dropshot weights to the line instead of using a standard dropshot weight. He explains that smallmouth and spotted bass will often throw traditional dropshot weights off the line during the fight but a tied weight will last much longer. This video is full of small details that make a huge difference so pay close attention to what Tim is teaching.

While the actual method is simple, Tim breaks down 3 key applications for the dropshotted swimbait. He also explains there are two different hooks that work for this technique. The Owner mosquito light is best with higher-end tackle that has been dialed in to absorb the hard runs of big bass. This hook is incredibly sharp but will bend under load if the angler is not experienced with battling big bass. For those with budget tackle that is not as dialed in, or those who simply prefer a heavier wire hook, the Trokar dropshot hook is a phenomenal option. Below is a breakdown of the baits, hooks, weights, and equipment that Tim recommends for this method.

The baits...

-Keitech 3" Easy Shiner Swimbait: http://bit.ly/2bxJK6H

How To Catch More Bass With Spoons - Fall Bass Fishing

Ready to catch more bass this Fall? The spoon briefly regained popularity when the magnum flutter spoon was introduced but as a whole, its an overlooked tool for Fall bass fishing. Today Matt and Tim sit down together and teach us everything we need to know about fishing a spoon. Tim takes an in depth look at flutter spoons while Matt focuses his attention on jigging spoons.

The biggest misconception about flutter spoons is they need to be fished deep. We've seen great results in 2-6 feet of water around dock pilings in the Fall. Don't be fooled into believing this awesome fish catcher won't work for you! Jigging spoons on the other hand require quite a bit of depth. Most of the bites while fishing vertically come between 20 and 60 feet of water.

There are a handful of tricks that will improve your time fishing spoons. For flutter spoons, Tim recommends adding a swivel to the head of the bait as well as a stinger hook on the line above the lure. For jigging spoons Matt also recommends a swivel but instead of a stinger, he recommends a feathered treble hook for converting wary fish.

Below is a breakdown of the gear the guys discussed and used in the video. We've broken it up by category to simplify it for you.
